Why it matters

A strategic model sees zones, flows between zones and access to transit through connectors — one static picture per period of the day. An agent-based simulation unpacks the same zone into people who walk to actual stops, wait, board a specific vehicle and transfer at the hub, in continuous time.

Agent-based simulation is usually explained with equations or with a screenshot of a running model. Neither shows why a planner should care. These explainers show the mechanism itself — one person, one day, one score — so that the results on a dashboard stop being a black box.
